Madrona Street in Environmental Dilemma
Trying to do the right thing for the environment doesn’t always work out. Especially when it’s inconvenient for others. I’m reminded this after reading an article in The Seattle Times.
A family chose to save two vintage homes from going into a land fill by buying a lot for them & arranging to have them moved. Moving the homes became the biggest problem. The move would inconvenience the Metro transit system because electric bus lines would have to be moved. The Metro vote rejected the homes moving down that street. Plan B was to move the homes down a much narrower street lined with beautiful trees. The residents of this street recently voted on the matter and denied the homes the 2 hour access down their street. The problem being the street’s overhanging trees would have to be cut back and some other smaller trees would be temporarily removed. If a decision isn’t reached before the 24th than the homes will be demolished.
I have to agree with one of the residents of the street who said, “This is the biggest tempest in a teapot I’ve ever seen. It’s ridiculous,” she said. “If you cut a branch another will grow.”
Also, I read many postings on this article where people want this put back on Metro to be more willing to work with these people. I think it’s a great thing what this family is trying to accomplish and it’s just too bad it has turned into such a mess!
