2021 Best Places to Buy a House in Seattle Area

The Seattle-area housing market has remained strong throughout the pandemic and — according to recent data — it is showing no signs of slowing down.

With many workplaces adopting more flexible work-from-home policies, people have been given more freedom in choosing where they want to live or buy a home.

A new report from Niche ranked the top places in the Seattle area to buy a house in 2021. Topping the list was North Redmond, which earned an overall Niche grade of A+. The city also ranked well for public schools and housing.

“Living in North Redmond offers residents a sparse urban feel and most residents own their homes,” the report said.

North Redmond was followed by the Sammamish Valley and Sammamish Plateau, which both earned an A+ in their overall Niche grades. Many of the neighborhoods that topped the list were located in Redmond.

The data looks at a number of measurements to rank the best places to buy a home, including home values, taxes, crime rates and quality of local schools.

Still, people looking to buy a home in the Seattle area are faced with the challenges of low inventory and increasing prices as competition over the few homes available have resulted in many homes receiving multiple offers, driving prices farther up.

According to the most recent report from Northwest Multiple Listing Service, in King County in February, total active inventory in the county was down nearly 18% year-over-year, reflecting the limited inventory that has marked the region’s housing market over the past year.

Closed sales in King County were up about 13.5% in February compared to the same time last year, with 2,146 closed sales over the course of the month. Home prices were also up more than 10% year over year, with the median price for closed sales in February coming in at $679,075.

South Hollywood Hill ranked fourth on the list for the best places to buy a home in the Seattle area in 2021.

Union Hill

Union Hill ranked fifth on the list for the best places to buy a home in the Seattle area in 2021.
